A 37-year-old New Mexico woman is listed in critical condition after she reportedly failed to use a crosswalk and was hit by a FedEx truck in central Odessa, an Odessa Police Department press release detailed. The collision reportedly happened at 9:37 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Fifth Street and Dixie Boulevard. OPD and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the collision, the release stated. Investigation showed that 22-year-old Carlos Chaparro of Midland was reportedly driving a FedEx truck east on Fifth Street and turned south on Dixie. The pedestrian, identified as 37-year-old Samantha Fleming, was attempting to walk east across Dixie before being struck by a FedEx truck. Fleming wasn’t reportedly at a crosswalk. Fleming was transported to Medical Center Hospital and later air-lifted to Lubbock with life-threatening injuries.
