The Cardinals would lose the Class 1A Division 1 state championship to St. John- Hudson 67-50 Saturday evening at White Auditorium in Emporia.Ten Cardinals finished an impressive four-year run in which the final three were 20-win seasons. William Lowe, Lane Cully, Austin Showman, Bryce Byers, Hunter Ray, Justin Harris, James Moreland, Levi Schuster, Chase Upton and Devin Culp will put away their South Haven jerseys leaving behind arguably one of the best basketball teams ever assembled in the South-Central Border League. From the onset of this one, St. John-Hudson – located south of Great Bend, were pretty much in control. St. John-Hudson would score on its first seven possessions, building a 13-7 advantage. St. John-Hudson led 21-13 after one quarter and was in front 36-23 at the half. Both teams struggled to score early in the third quarter with the Tigers outscoring the Cards 6-3 in the first four minutes. St. John-Hudson was up 48-30 before South Haven rattled off seven straight points to end the third quarter down by 11, 48-37. It was setting up to be a potential come-from-behind rally to start the fourth. But the first sequence of the fourth quarter proved to be a killer for South Haven. The Cards missed an easy layup and then St. John came down and scored a layup on its own in a matter of five seconds. That was a four-point swing, South Haven could not afford to have. The Tigers would build the lead up to 20, before winning by 17.For the game, South Haven shot 33.3 percent from the field, going 17-of-51 from the field. It was worse from the three-point arch, usually a Cardinal staple, but going 4-of-19 Saturday night.St. John-Hudson was also 4-of-19 from outside the arch, but it was a more proficient 20-of-46 inside the paint. For the second straight game South Haven had to deal with a lanky 6-8 sophomore. This time, though, Dean Wade would score 18 points for the Tigers, compared to 7 for the Stockton sophomore the night before. The Tigers also got to the foul line more, going 23-of-29 from the charity stripe, compared to South Haven’s 12 of 16.For the game, Showman scored 21 points. No other South Haven player was in double figures. The Cards were facing foul trouble all evening. Showman would foul out. Lane Cully and Anthony Cully had four fouls. William Lowe, who has a huge presence inside, started the game with two fouls right off the bat.For St. John-Hudson, one has to hand it to the state champions. The Tigers seized the opportunities presented to them. Of the 67 points scored, four of the five starters were in double figures and the other one had 8. It was no accident that St. John-Hudson finished with just one loss all season and was a permanent fixture on top of the Class 1A Division 1 poll.As for the future of South Haven’s boys basketball, there is no doubt “rebuilding” will be the dominant word next season. You don’t replace a group like this everyday. St. John-Hudson 67 South Haven 50. South Haven 13 10 14 13 — 50St. John 21 15 12 19 — 67South Haven: Lowe 7, Showman 21, Byers 2, Ray 3, Hawkins 8, Schuster 2, Moreland 2. Total: 17-51 (4-19) 12-16 50. St. John-Hudson: Kinnamon 10, Nusser 10, Long 8, Wade 19, Reyes 17. Total: 20-46 (4-19) 23-29 67.
“It would be surreal for a sports minister to demonise football,” he said.“The majority of Italians do not welcome the resumption of the championship.“But I’m not looking at polls at the moment. Football is an important world in this country, I know it well compared to those who want to give a different message.“I hope to start again, but the government will decide. We will rely on scientific elements, which are not available today.“There is no opposition of mine, but the desire to evaluate the restart only if the health of the people within the team group is safeguarded.“If the government is forced, I hope not, to establish that there are no conditions (to resume), my effort will be twofold — limit the financial damage to clubs and support the whole world of sport.“Between ordinary and extraordinary resources, we will invest about one billion euros for the sector as a whole.”Share on: WhatsApp Aaron RamseyMilan, Italy | AFP | Welsh international Aaron Ramsey was the first Juventus player to return to individual training at the team’s sports centre in Turin on Tuesday as Cristiano Ronaldo began two weeks’ quarantine after returning to Italy.Ronaldo flew back to northern Italy by private jet on Monday night after almost two months in coronavirus lockdown in his native Portugal.Midfielder Ramsey joined Juventus this season after 11 years with Arsenal, and scored his fourth goal in their last game against Inter Milan behind closed doors before the championship was suspended on March 10.Champions Juventus are leading Serie A, one point ahead of Lazio, as they target a ninth consecutive Scudetto.Captain Giorgio Chiellini followed shortly after Ramsey, with fellow Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci, wearing a black face mask, arriving later in the afternoon.Italy’s interior ministry has given the go-ahead for players to return to club training facilities two weeks ahead of schedule, offering a glimmer of hope that the 2019-20 season might yet be saved. But sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora warned that training in groups must wait until May 18, and it remains uncertain whether matches can restart as the country battles a pandemic which has killed over 29,000.“A realistic prediction can be made in mid-May,” Spadafora said in an interview with Corriere della Sera on Tuesday, denying that he wanted to call a halt to the season.
SUBPAR PERFORMANCE—Hines Ward looks to see if he got past the first down marker after making a catch against the New York Jets. Ward finished with 2 catches for 34 yards. (Photo by William McBride) The Steelers had one big game remaining before they faced the lowly Carolina Panthers (2-12) and Cleveland Browns (5-9). If they could beat the New York Jets (10-4) they could run the table and be the second seed in the playoffs with a bye week. Well, all that went out the window with the 22-17 loss to the Jets.Once again the offense sputtered, not being able to score in the red zone, and the special teams gave up a touchdown to open the game which was the difference in the game. The Baltimore Ravens pulled even with the Steelers with a 30-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints. The Steelers have the tie breaker should they finish the season even, but they can’t afford to lose either of the remaining games because it’s not likely the Ravens, who held the high powered Saints offense in check and were able to move the ball against one of the best defenses in the NFL, will lose. Now they face the Browns (5-9) and Cincinnati Bengals (3-11).The Steelers, Jets game was everything it was built up to be, a struggle between two of the best defenses in the league. But a special teams touchdown and safety were the difference.Ben Roethlisberger put the ball in the air 44 times completing 23 passes for 264 yards and one touchdown. Rashard Mendenhall picked up 100 yards on 17 carries. One bright spot was rookie Emmanuel Sanders having a breakout game with 7 catches for 78 yards. Mike Wallace also had 7 catches for 102 yards, moving him over 1,000 yards for the season.Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez stood up to the pressure created by the Steelers’ defense and his team’s two-game losing streak, scrambling for the Jets’ first offensive touchdown in 12 quarters and leading a decisive field-goal drive in leading his team to the victory.Despite losing, the Steelers (10-4) were told by the NFL that they secured a playoff spot via a series of complicated strength-of-schedule tiebreakers. Pittsburgh also owns the division tiebreaker and will beat out Baltimore (10-4) for the AFC North title if it defeats Carolina on Thursday and Cleveland on Jan. 2. The Jets, nearing a playoff spot, won in Pittsburgh for the first time since the 1970 merger after going 0-7.The Steelers had to go for a touchdown on the final drive rather than settling for a field goal because Mewelde Moore was tackled in the end zone for a safety by Jason Taylor with 2:38 remaining.“I told the guys, let’s be great, let’s go down the field and score. We got close, but not close enough,” Roethlisberger said.Pittsburgh had just 35 yards in penalties after having 420 in its previous four games.Over nine seasons as coach of the Carolina Panthers, John Fox has made it a point to hide his emotions but Sunday was different. Minutes after his league-worst Panthers celebrated the end of a seven-game losing streak, with a 19-12 win over the punchless Arizona Cardinals, Fox took a minute to soak in what was almost certainly his final home game on the job. Securing an overall winning regular-season record, Fox left the field with his arms raised and fists clenched.“We developed a lot of relationships here. There are a lot of high character guys in that locker room that I appreciate,” Fox said. “It means a lot to me.”Denied a contract extension the past two years and seemingly at odds with the offseason roster-gutting that left the Panthers (2-12) short on talent and experience, Fox is coaching out the string in the last year of his deal. His youngsters came through for him in a performance that was just good enough to beat a similarly dysfunctional unit. And it didn’t even hurt Carolina’s draft positioning, as Cincinnati also won to keep the Panthers a game up in the race for the No. 1 overall pick.Quarterback Jimmy Clausen was good enough to get his first win in eight tries, completing 13 of 19 passes for 141 yards and no turnovers. Stewart took advantage of the league’s 30th-ranked rushing defense, and Carolina pounced on Arizona’s mistakes. So it should be a very easy game for Pittsburgh this week, but the Steelers have a tendency to play down to its opponent.
Arsenal will play Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Under-21 Premier League Cup after beating Fulham 1-0.Thomas Eisfeld’s second-half goal was decisive in an entertaining game at Fulham’s Motspur Park training ground, where the Gunners’ England star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to action after injury.Jesse Joronen produced excellent saves to deny Oxlade-Chamberlain – who went off three minutes after the interval – and Benik Afobe. But Fulham’s young Finnish keeper was unable to prevent Eisfeld firing into the top corner following a goalmouth scramble just before the hour mark.Arsenal continued to have the upper hand and Nico Yennaris had a goal disallowed for offside before Jorenen pulled off another fine stop, this time denying Carl Jenkinson.Fulham almost grabbed an injury-time equaliser when Dino Islamovic’s header hit the bar.See also:Ake gives Chelsea youngsters cup victoryFollow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebook
Let me pitch you on how to think about your sales process and why it is important to you as a salesperson and/or a sales manager.Do This And WinYour sales process is simply the collection of things that you do that lead to a won deal. It outlines all of the steps between target and close. It outlines all of the outcomes you need to obtain, all the little milestones along the way. And it outlines all of the commitments you need, most of the important ones coming way before you ever get to the final commitment. When you follow your sales process, you massively improve the value you create for your dream client, and you massively improve the likelihood that you win. That’s why it’s kind of a big deal. Now look, I’m not suggesting that a sales process isn’t dynamic, that you don’t need some chops to work through the parts where turn-by-turn directions aren’t available. But not following a process is foolish.Don’t Do This And LoseWhen you don’t follow your process, you miss some of the important outcomes that end up costing you deals later. When you miss the development of needs, you put your solution, your presentation, and your proposal at risk. When you decide that consensus isn’t an outcome you want to worry too much about, you discover later that your “power sponsor” doesn’t have the power, and that the other stakeholders killed the deal.If there are commitments you need, you need to ask for them. These commitments are what propels your deal forward. Not asking for or obtaining the commitments you need is going to add a big “L” to your record.QuestionsDo you follow your sales process? Be real here. Do you follow your company’s process?Do you always obtain the outcomes you need to create value for your dream client?Do you always ask for and obtain the commitments you really need?Look at the last deal you lost. Now look at your sales process. If you could go back and compete for that deal all over again, what would you change? Is it right there in your process? Get the Free eBook! Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has told the depositors of the scam-hit PMC Bank that he would discuss the issue of their distress with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he meets the latter on October 13. A group of Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank customers met Mr. Fadnavis on Friday after an election rally he addressed here to campaign for BJP candidate and sitting MLA Sanjay Kelkar, who is contesting from Thane City constituency. Aggrieved depositors put forth their woes to the CM, who gave them a hearing, but said he could not give them any assurance as the Model Code of Conduct was in force.Mr. Fadnavis said he would be meeting Mr. Modi on October 13, and he had already prepared a brief on the PMC Bank issue for the meeting.“After the elections on October 21,we will follow up on this issue and ensure that the bank is bailed out at any cost. It will not meet the same fate as the other co-operative banks,” he said. PMC Bank is facing a crisis after an alleged ₹4,500 crore scam came to light last month. The RBI had capped withdrawals from the bank at ₹1,000 and later increased it to ₹25,000 following protests by depositors. The bank had allegedly lent over 70% of its ₹ 9,000 crore in loans to near-bankrupt realty player HDIL.
