Vipers bow out of Digicel Cup 2015 season

first_imgThey were defeated by visitors Mt Hagen Eagles 7-6 at Murray Barracks oval on Sunday in a close encounter.Each team scored a try and a penalty kick but Eagles brushed off the heat and dusty surface coming out winners thanks to a field goal.Both teams scored in the first half with Vipers first to put the ball over the line through Ben Wemin.  An unsuccessful conversion by Scott Francis left the score 4-0 three minutes into the game.The pressure was on as Eagles fought hard to catch up but after two missed opportunities, the visitors managed to score through left winger Elijah Peter.Eagles’ unsuccessful conversions left the score 4-4 at half time.In the second half, a field goal through half back Willie Guambo put Eagles in the lead 5-4 ten minutes into the second half.Ten minutes later the home side took the lead after a penalty kick 6-5 but Eagles maintained attack, gaining two more points from a penalty kick 7-6 to claim victory.In other matches, Hela Wigmen defeated Agmark Gurias 16-6 in Mendi, TNA Lions beat Goroka Lahanis 18-17 at Kundiawa, Gulf Isapea was defeated by Waghi Tumbe 37-4 in Minj and Snax Tigers beat Mendi Muruks 28-4 in Lae.Eagles have now secured a spot in the final eight and will play in the final playoffs while Vipers and Gulf Isapea have bowed out of the season.last_img
